In my travels around Gujarat, the number of new temples that are coming up or that have come up already is astounding. Among historic monuments in India, temples predominate. People generally don't raze temples down and put malls there. Temples seem to be built with good material etc, so that makes for their greater longevity too.
These temples are not just built by charitable groups. They are a highly profitable tourist destination in this religious land. There was this waterpark called SwapnaSrushti which apparently wasn't doing well. They built a "Mini-Amarnath" next door and now Mini Amarnath attracts more traffic on an off day than the water park does for the whole month!
As with our ancestors, our generation'slegacy in architecture will most likely be a set of temples.
