Chandrakant Baxi passes away
The great Gujarati author and journalist Chandrakant Baxi passed away yesterday in Ahmedabad at the age of 74. I was an avid reader of his 'Vatayan' column in Gujarat Samachar. He was the only world-class columnist in that newspaper. Come to think of it, he wrote like Maureen Dowd, only lengthier, more rambling and erudite. He mixed Gujarati and English freely in his writing, which seemed quite novel at the time. Below is the list of his 100 favorite books:

End of An Era
Tendulkar and Lara, both on their way out at the same time. Wonder if they'll survive till the World Cup. They are basically at the mercy of their respective Cricket Boards.
