Motorola Q

Saw the Motorola Q - not quite as slick-looking as the RAZR or the SLVR, but very thin. Runs the Windows Mobile OS and works on the Verizon EV-DO network. The OS is very difficult to use though.

Jogging/Stairmaster with weights: bad idea

I tried the Stairmaster as well as jogging with weights (5 lbs in each hand) - seemed like fantastic exercise, but does not seem like a good idea at all. Seems like you could easily hurt yourself and it's not such great exercise either.

Oh well...

Institute For The Future

I'm at the Institute For The Future (IFTF) in Palo Alto today. Whenever I would read about IFTF in newspapers, I'd think of a large, quiet place with thinkers like Paul Saffo contemplating the future and giving newspaper interviews.

But I realized yesterday that the address is 124 University Ave in Palo Alto, and so it can't be a really large place.

It isn't. It's a nice facility, but not very large or very quiet. It's basically a smallish conference center with a few meeting rooms. The folks who run it are probably spending a lot of time recruiting companies to use their facilities.

Futurists have to eat too.

Pottery Barn Rule

Funny invocation of the 'Pottery Barn rule' (Context: why it's hard to replace Rumsfeld for a lame duck President):
"Even the Cabinet is hard to send packing, because disgruntled former Treasury secretaries can be a problem (Don Regan, Paul O'Neill), and dismissing an incompetent Defense secretary invokes another Pottery Barn rule: You fire him, you replace him—and then go through confirmation hearings that replay all the mistakes you made together."

'Bluffmaster' soundtrack

My love affair with the 'Bluffmaster' soundtrack continues. I'm still listening to it at least half-a-dozen times a day. Now I need to track down some stuff by this guy Arash (who sings 'Boro Boro'), by this group Trickbaby ('Neela'), by Sameeruddin and by Robert Uhlmann.
